The Sixth and Seventh Banknote Issues of Bangladesh

Figure 15

The National Mausoleum – the Jatiya Shaheed Smriti Sandha – is located at Savar near Dhaka. Designed by Moinul Hussain, it was built to commemorate the millions of Bengalis who lost their life in the War of Liberation. The striking structure is fifty metres tall and is situated in beautifully kept grounds. Throughout the grounds are grass covered mounds covering mass graves of people who died in the War. The Mausoleum is a popular place for Bengalis to visit, for it is an important reminder of their struggle for independence.
