The Shapla (nymphœa nouchali) is a water lily which grows prolifically throughout Bangladesh and is the national flower of Bangladesh. While the flower is decorative, the tube of the plant can be used as food. The Shapla is represented on the national emblem of Bangladesh and it is depicted a number of times on the bank notes.
